Sad October Playoffs

I must apologize profusely to everyone for my lack of activity on the blog! I look at the calendar, and it has been nearly three weeks since I last posted, and based on my regular updates during the season, that is totally out-of-the-ordinary. My lack of activity is in part to a new job that I just started that has me working very hard and doing rewarding things. While I won't go into detail about my job, this blog is about fun and recreation, I will tell you that things have definitely changed when it comes to the remainder of this season, and for the overall future of this blog and Baseball Road Trips.

To start, as autumn came, my last post was full of optimism as both the Angels and Dodgers had both clinched their respective divisions and were preparing for the first-round of the playoffs. While I have obviously hitched my wagon to the Angels, I was sure that one, if not both teams, would make a run in the postseason and afford me opportunities to see some playoff games in October. Lo and behold, both the Angels and Dodgers were bounced in the first round of the playoffs, and I failed to see any games, period. I had intended to go to Game 2 of the ALDS at the Big A, which ultimately turned out to be a classic between the Royals and the Angels, but my new job prevented me from doing so. As a result, I, like the Angels and Dodgers, will be sitting at home this month watching the playoffs unfold on my television.

While the losses certainly are disheartening, I do take solace in the fact that my season isn't over, by any means. Baseball Road Trips will continue through the traditional "off-season" and into the start of next year.

To begin, at the beginning of November, I'll be jumping back into my car and driving to Phoenix to check out some Arizona Fall League action at Salt River Fields and in Peoria. This will be my second time going to Phoenix this season, but I am excited to see this new brand of baseball that is supposed to be very entertaining to watch.

During this time, I have got to finish my Catalina series for all of you. My notes of that trip have been sitting on my dining room table gathering dust, so while in between these last 2014 road trips, I'll work on that, and hopefully post those as I finish them.

In mid-December, I'll be heading back down to Mexicali to see the Mexican League team play down there. I have planned to go the week before Christmas vacation, which will be a little weird considering I have never seen a baseball game be played that deep into winter before.

When the calendar flips to January 2015, I'll head back to Palm Springs for a weekend to see some California Winter League action. Then, when February rolls around, we'll be talking about Fan Fest and the start of college season!

So, with this in mind, I am taking the month of October off from baseball and just watching the playoffs on television. However, considering the itineraries I have planned, I'm just going to keep this blog rolling from this season right into the next. It's usually my custom to create a new blog each season, but since I have no real break planned for the game, it would be counter-productive. Let's keep this train moving and looking ahead to what is definitely going to be a fun autumn and winter for baseball!

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
