It's hard to believe that tomorrow is my last Dodger's game for the summer. Yes, the Boys in Blue will probably be making the playoffs, and if schedules allow, I might catch a game or two. However, if there are playoff games, odds are that they won't be day games, and that means I won't be huffing up the hill on my bike again for this summer.
The Dodgers are playing host to the Diamondbacks, just like my first visit to Dodger Stadium this year. Hyun Jin-Ryu takes the bump for the Dodgers as the D-Backs counter with Trevor Cahill. It's also A.J. Ellis Bobblehead Day so I get to add some hardware to my ever growing collection of bobbleheads on my dresser.
While I may be going to my final Dodger's game, surprisingly enough, I've gone to two 66ers games this week. Yes, my hometown Minor League team made it to the playoffs by clinching the South Division for the 2nd Half. What is extraordinary is that they started the 2nd Half going 1-13. They rallied to end up winning the division by two games on the final day of the regular season.
On Wednesday, I drove down to Lake Elsinore to see them play in the first game of the best-of-three series against the Storm. It was my first time going to Lake Elsinore this season, and first since my first ever visit since the Cal League trip in August 2013. The 66ers took Game 1 4-2 highlighted by a Dennis Raben inside-the-park-home-run in the top of the ninth.
Thursday saw the series move back to San Bernardino and San Manuel Stadium for Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3. The 66ers scored two runs in the bottom of the 13th to take the series from the Storm.
The 66ers now travel to Lancaster for the Divisional Series, which is best-of-5. The first two games, tonight and tomorrow, will be in Lancaster. Game 3 and, if necessary, 4 will be here in San Bernardino on Monday and Tuesday. Game 5 will be in Lancaster. I'll definitely go to the Monday and Tuesday games. If the series goes 5 games, I may go up to Lancaster too.
No shortage of baseball for me, even though the calendar says September. I love this time of year because all my teams are in pennant races or playoffs, and college football is starting. Here's a question: what time of year is better? September, because of the playoff races in baseball and college football? Or, March, because of Spring Training and March Madness? It's a fair question to ask...
I look forward to communicating with all of you over social media tomorrow and into next week!
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
