Sunday saw me head up to Chavez Ravine for the last time in 2014. Yes, I know that there are playoffs to see, but with the Angels playing well and, most likely, making it to the postseason, most of my attention will be centered there. So, for one last hurrah, I toted my bike on the Metrolink, rode into LA, did my bike loop to the Staples Center and up the big hill, enjoyed a Dodger Dog, and saw the Boys in Blue play.
Discovering the I could ride my bike up to Dodger Stadium made the trips to the ballpark so much more enjoyable. It always added a neat element to the trips. Sure, the hill on Sunset Blvd and up Elysian Park Ave is a real pain and tough as anything, the rewards are so worth it. I get a great workout in, bypass all the gnarly traffic, save $20 on parking, get a great view of the LA skyline, and a fun coast back down into Downtown. I finally figured out how to relax myself after the big climb so I'm not super sweaty, so it was a routine that I very much enjoyed.
I ended up going to five games at Dodger Stadium this year, and I'm very comfortable with that amount. You may be asking why this is, considering it is just as easy to go to Dodger Stadium as it is to get to Anaheim. Bottom line: it's the Dodger fans. Last time, it was the obvious gang members that sat next to me. This time, it was the dozens of people who weren't standing for the National Anthem.
Look, I get that it is your right to protest, and I totally support that. However, there is a modicum of respect that everyone should adhere to. A lot of good men and women have died for our country, and for people not to stand in honor of that sacrifice just irritates me a whole bunch. I had never seen that before at any of the baseball games I had been to, so you can imagine my surprise in seeing that at, of all places, Dodger Stadium.
Dodger games are a great experience, but five games is as much as I can take. I'll stick with the Angels, thank you very much.
In other news, the 66ers ended up getting swept by Lancaster. Their final game was Monday at San Manuel Stadium, which I went to. It was a great ride to be a part of, and to be a part of that playoff push was certainly exciting. I can't wait for the Angels to begin their run in the postseason. It's an infectious attitude.
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
