Pitchers and Catchers Report

To a baseball fan, the day that Pitchers and Catchers report to Spring Training is almost like Christmas Day. The excitement and anticipation of a coming season makes this day akin to opening present on Christmas morning. We shake off the long and cold off-season and prepare for a rite of spring that signals warmer and longer days ahead. While I've been going to baseball games for almost a month now, I still honor the significance of this day.

The return of Pitchers and Catchers marks the start of the nearly 8-month adventure that is Baseball Extravaganza. While I won't be making my return to Phoenix for Spring Training until early April, this day is the kickoff to the College Phase of my season as the Division 1 schools hit the field. The light is green, so to speak, for what should be a fantastic College Phase.

I had to change a few things around this weekend because I'm having some issues with my bike. I didn't want to travel to an exotic destination without the use of my bike because it has just become a part of my experiences on Baseball Road Trips. So, as a result, I have scrapped the trip down to San Diego and am just staying local seeing UC Riverside play host to Kansas State.

I'm thinking that this will be my only visit to UC Riverside this season. In looking at the schedule, the UCR schedule doesn't really work out for me, and while they do have some mid-week and Friday night games, traffic down to Riverside after 5 is brutal. Last year, it was a lot more convenient to go to games at UCR because it was on the way home from my job. However, since I have changed jobs and am working in San Bernardino, it just is a little out of the way. Also, I picked up a second job on Saturdays refereeing basketball, so the only time I have for games is either after work locally during the week or on Sundays. So, as it were, UCR's schedule comes out in a way which means I can only go to this one game.

As the College Phase kicks off with this symbolic date of Pitchers and Catchers reporting, keep an eye on all the social media platforms for updates from the road. I'm looking forward to sharing this with all of you, and I am so excited to get going!

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
