If we're talking about college sports in November, the conventional wisdom is that we're talking football. The College Football Playoff, conference championships, tailgates, and marching bands should dominate the discussion for autumn sports on campus. But, baseball is always there, no matter the season or weather. It's a testament to my location and my desire to find out where the game is played and to seek it out. In the case of these next two weekends, local college baseball teams are holding their fall practices, and that means that they're hosting scrimmages with each other and with other area teams. This weekend will see me hit the first of two games in consecutive weekends back on nearby campuses in Southern California.
My first stop this Saturday will be back to the Riverside Sports Complex to see UC Riverside play host to Division III Cal Poly Pomona. I won't be doing anything super special surrounding the game, except jetting off to the Oregon Ducks Watch Party in Murrieta afterwards. I was thinking of hiking up to the "C", but I'll wait and do that next season.
The next week will have me head down to Fullerton and Goodwin Field to see the Cal State Fullerton inter-squad scrimmage. CSF made it to the College World Series last year, so while I am not a huge fan of the Blue vs. Orange match-up and would rather see them play another team, this is a powerhouse program on the rise. I don't have any plans when I'm down there considering it's a 1pm start. However, I might see some relatives beforehand for a late breakfast or early lunch.
As you can see, these next two games over the next two weekends are really designed to be low-key. They're are exhibitions, in my mind, so they don't count either way in standings or league relevance. My main goal with these trips is to keep my foot in the baseball door during the fall as the end of the 2015 season draws near.
I'll be updating Facebook, Twitter, and FourSquare during the games, so keep an eye out for those posts!
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
