As much as I willed myself to ride down to the beach on Sunday, I couldn't do it. I slept through my alarm and conceded to take the later train for my normal routine. And, considering how much I enjoy that routine, I'm not complaining at all! I have no games planned for this Sunday, so I think I'll do that ride then.
I've gotten really good at doing this eight mile ride down to Orange. When I got to the coffee shop after the ride, I wasn't tired at all, and I was really refreshed and upbeat. Combined with my bagels and coffee, by the time I head out to the Big A, I'm ready to take on the world. Even after a rough night sleeping, I was wide awake and rearin' to go.
The Angels were going for a sweep of the White Sox. The night before, Mike Trout hit a game-tying Grand Slam off of Chris Sale in the bottom of the eighth, and Eric Aybar gave the Angels the lead a few batters later with an RBI single. While I may have missed that game, the buzz around the park from that exciting game was palpable. Just being a fan of this team as they're making a run to a possible post-season berth really is exciting.
The Angels got some clutch hitting from Josh Hamilton, who had three-RBI's, and solid starting pitching from CJ Wilson as the beat the White 4-2. I was really impressed by how good the at-bats were for the Angels as they were patient and worked the counts. You wouldn't think that the Angels could play the "Moneyball" game with all of their prolific hitters, but they seem to be rather adept at it.
My Post-Game Watering Hole #3 was O'Hara's Pub in downtown Orange. Um, yeah, it really wasn't my cup of tea. Definitely a dive bar, but they did have Oregon-brewed Widmer on tap. It was dark and dank, and the characters really seemed shady. Out of the three Watering Holes I've been to, this has been the worst. I think next time I do this, I'll head out of downtown onto Katella and go to the Tilted Kilt.
I'm putting this out there for anybody reading this: If you can get here to Highland, I'll buy your train tickets, rent your bike, buy you coffee and bagels, get your ticket to the game, and get the first round at the Post-Game Watering Hole. These Angels game weekends are so much fun, and I would love to share it with all of you directly.
This week is going to be a little different for me. If you can believe it, no MLB action as I head exclusively to the Minors. It seems like it has been forever since I have been to the 66ers game, so I'll cash in my unused ticket from a few weekends ago to the game tomorrow night. I'll also hit up the game on Saturday night. As for Sunday, the Dodgers are home, but I really want to do this Newport Beach Bike Ride, so I'll skip Chavez Ravine for a later date.
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
