No professional games this weekend, so I head back to campus. I've been to two college venues this season, and I have had a wonderful time at both of them. This time, I make my way down into Orange County to the campus of Cal State Fullerton to see the Titans play host to the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii. Cal State Fullerton is an elite program that has multiple national championships under their belts and sights set for Omaha every year. They swept the Ducks earlier in the year and were ranked as high as fifth in the nation.
Goodwin Field hosted professional baseball a few years ago. The Orange County Flyers were an independent league team in the now-defunct Golden League. It is now an exclusive college venue, and the murmurs of professional ball returning to Goodwin Field have ended. But, because of its prior association with pro ball, Goodwin Field is supposed to be a top-notch college venue. I'm very excited to see it.
Before the game, I'm driving into Newport Beach to see some family and, depending on time, relax a little on the beach. Newport Beach and I have a little history, if you remember, from the Cal League road trip from last season. Maybe I can find my hat and sunglasses I lost in the pounding surf...
Facebook, Twitter, and FourSquare will be very active as I travel around the OC. I'll write up a post that night.
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
